Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City, NJ

Some may say I'm biased because I use to live in Jersey City but Taqueria Downtown has thee best tacos I've ever had. It's funny that the first time I've been here was after I moved out of Jersey City. I've lived there for 26 years and have never been here. I did myself a great disservice because I have missed out on many opportunities to treat myself to margaritas and tacos. To me Cinco de Mayo was the perfect day to make a visit because I mean, why not? I went for lunch before it began to get super packed for the day.

They start you off with chips and salsa which I feel like all Mexican restaurants should do. The salsa is delicious.

The margaritas as good and strong enough to keep you ordering more. He actually forgot my salt on the rim but it's fine lol it went down just fine.

Then came the best part... THE TACOS! I ordered my 3 favorite. They have 12 different types of carnitas (pork), bistec (steak), pescado (fish), nopalitos (cactus), barbacoa (lamb), cecina (salted beef), chorizo (sausage), picadillo (ground beef), suadero (beef flank), lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef head), and buche (pork stomach).

I've heard of a michelada but never actually had one. When I heard someone order it at the bar I figured what a perfect day to finally try one, right? It was explained to me as being a bloody mary but with beer instead of vodka. I'm not a big fan of beer but I actually enjoyed it. The fact that it was spicy was a plus. I just wish I would've ordered it as my first drink because the last taco I had left was the steak taco and it is spicy. Spicy + Spicy with no relief is a little rough, so I ate and drank slower. I had to eat the chips and drink the leftover beer to get a little help to get the michelada and steak taco down. This was a DELICIOUS lunch and I'm just waiting for my friends to say they want to go there so I can go back... Like really soon... friends if you're reading this.

They have other things on the menu like flautas, tostadas, sopes, and more but I go for the tacos. If you are in the area or if you like mexican and want to try a new place, try this one.
