Since it's the top of the year, everyone is starting a new fitness journey. Whether it be to lose weight or just healthy eating, this low calorie French toast will do just the trick. As far as a sweet favorite breakfast recipe, french toast win's every time. You can still have your sweet breakfast and be on track with your fitness goals and not feel guilty. This is very close to a classic french toast recipe so it will taste like you are eating the french toast you know and love. If you want a great brunch recipe, this is the perfect breakfast to make to please a crowd. A few simple ingredients will make one of the best french toast. Oh, and this is a dairy-free french toast recipe so you cater to people with a lactose intolerance as well.

    Low Calorie French Toast Ingredients

    Low calorie French toast ingredients

Bread- In this recipe I use 40 calorie slice of bread. Wheat bread is totally not necessary but it was what I had on hand. A regular slice of white bread goes for about 70 calories per slice and a more traditional brioche bread... well we won't even mention that.

Milk- TTo replace the higher calorie cow's milk and heavy cream, this recipe uses sweetened vanilla almond milk. Now you can definitely use unsweetened almond milk and it doesn't even have to be vanilla flavored. Also using cashew milk would work and lower calories even more. Perfect for someone with a dairy allergy.

Egg- Instead of using a whole egg, just using egg whites gives the same effect and lowers the calories.

Syrup- Using sugar free syrup will reduce your calories by almost 100 calories depending on the brand! Crazy how much added sugar effects the amount of calories. You don't even miss it to be honest.

Flavoring- a tsp vanilla extract is used in this recipe but if you wanted to follow through with the almond flavor from the almond milk, you can use almond extract as well. A teaspoon ground cinnamon is also used to bring home flavors of the classic recipe.

You can also top the delicious French toast with different fresh fruit, like fresh strawberries pictured above. Fruits are low in calories and high in nutrients and dietary fiber.

If you like sweet breakfast foods I have other recipes such as homemade waffle and a peach dutch baby. The are not calorie conscious though, just want to put that out there.
